The Board of Education of USD 490 met in regular session on Monday, February 13, 2017 in the Board of Education Office, 124 West Central, El Dorado, Kansas.I. Routine
1. The meeting was called to order by Board President Vicki Coash at 6:00 p.m.

3. Executive Session
At 6:00 p.m. Board President Vicki Coash moved to recess into an executive session for a period of 30 minutes to discuss matters of non-elected personnel in order to protect the privacy rights of the individuals to be discussed, to discuss negotiations in order to protect the public interest in negotiating a fair and equitable contract, and to discuss confidential data to protect the interests of the business to be discussed, with Board members and the Superintendent present. Monty Hughey seconded the motion. The motion carried 7-0.The board returned to general session at 6:30 p.m. with the same people as listed above present.At 6:30 p.m. Bernie Spradling moved to recess into executive session for an additional period of 15 minutes to discuss matters of non-elected personnel in order to protect the privacy rights of the individuals to be discussed, with Board members and the Superintendent present. Norm Wilks seconded the motion. The motion carried 7-0.The board returned to general session at 6:45 p.m. with the same people as listed above present.
4. Approval of the Agenda
Bernie Spradling made a motion to approve the agenda and addendum (8a – Additional Personnel Recommendations, 11a – Additional Executive Session). Seconded by Tom Storrer, the motion carried 7-0.

• Construction Projects – Kellen Adams and Doug Jensen provided up-to-date schematics of Blackmore and Grandview elementary buildings. A pre-bid meeting and demolition meeting/tour are scheduled for this week. Breaking ground is anticipated for late March or early April. Sue Givens shared that three oil paintings by Harry Chambers, who owned the house on the new Grandview site, have been offered as a donation to be displayed at the new Grandview building. • Strategic Plan Execution/Timeline – Sue Givens outlined the Strategic Plan Execution Process and timeline. • Legislative Update – Norm Wilks reviewed a list of Senate and House bills affecting education and encouraged Board Members to contact State Legislators.
9. 6-12 English Language Arts Resources
EHS Language Arts Teacher Jeremy Johnson and Executive Director of Curriculum Julie Jensen presented recommendations from the ELA Leadership Team for grade 6-12 curriculum resource materials. District Leadership Team has endorsed the adoption.Scott Starkey made a motion to approve grade 6-12 English Language Arts resource adoption as recommended. Seconded by Bernie Spradling, the motion carried 7-0.
10. 2017-18 Academic Calendar
The proposed calendar as recommended by the District Calendar Committee was presented for consideration. Norm Wilks made a motion to approve the 2017-2018 Academic Calendar as presented. Bernie Spradling seconded the motion. The motion carried 7-0.
